About The Island Of Itamaracá

A tropical island in the state of Pernambuco in NE Brazil.

On the Atlantic Ocean

It is about 26 square miles in size and is located an hour’s drive from Recife International Airport, with a long road bridge connecting it the mainland.

Most of the island comprises protected rain forests, but on the ocean side are miles of long white sandy beaches, fronted mainly by palm trees and holiday homes. There is a reef 2 miles offshore, which protects the island and keeps the inshore waters shallow, safe and warm.

Itamaracá is a city in its own right

And has all the associated services like town hall, hospital, police, shopping, bars, restaurants, etc. The climate is tropical with average temperatures in the range 26°C to 31°C, all year round, and it also has a history dating back to the 16th century.
